These 100% carnivore fritters make a perfect breakfast, a nutritious packed lunch, or take-along snacks.
They are super easy to make but very nutritious.
Beef is one of the best meats you can eat on the carnivore diet because its overall nutritional profile is better than that of pork or poultry.
Eggs are packed with so many essential nutrients and are nature’s superfood.
Cheese is a good source of calcium if you can tolerate dairy.
Bacon, although not the best food choice on the carnivore diet, is used in a small quantity just to add some extra flavor.
These fritters freeze well. If you enjoy them, you can make a large batch and freeze them for a quick breakfast to save time.
If you have non-carnivore kids, you can make these for their breakfast sometimes instead of a simple egg omelet.
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef (~500 grams)
- 8 medium eggs
- 2/3 cup grated cheese
- 2 strips bacon, chopped into small bits
- 1½ tsp sea salt
- oil for frying
Instructions
Step 1
In a large mixing bowl, add all ingredients (ground beef, bacon bits, grated cheese, egg, and salt) and mix well.
Step 2
Heat 2 tbs tallow in a small non-stick frying pan on medium heat.
Add one heap tablespoon of the fritter mixture to the pan. Fry for 4 to 5 minutes or until golden. Use a spatula to flip the fritter over and fry the other side for 4 to 5 minutes or until golden.
Transfer to a plate and serve them hot.
Tips
You can substitute a part of the mince with other animal-based food. For example, you can swap 4 ounces of mince for crab meat or chopped beef or lamb brain (a great source of omega 3).
You can also add about 2 ounces of minced or blended beef liver (or pate equivalent) to make it even more nutritious.
If you have non-carnivore members in the family, divide the batter in half and add a bit of seasoning to one half of the batter for the non-carnivore members.
Just 2 cloves garlic minced, 1/4 finely diced onion and 1/2 tsp pepper can add a lot more flavor to the fritters for non-carnivore members of your family. However, please avoid things like flour, corn kernels, or bread crumbs.
1/4 medium onion finely diced or grated2 cloves garlic minced1 large egg beaten1 tsp salt or to taste1/2 tsp black pepper
If you don’t usually salt your meat, you can skip the salt.
If possible, please use pasture-raised eggs and pasture-raised bacon.
Chicken and pigs on factory farms are raised in poor conditions and fed a species-inappropriate diet. If you can’t, eat chicken and pork products sparingly.
You can use any of your favorite cheese in this recipe (e.g. tasty cheese, mozzarella, and cheddar).
